Coaches, Thompson Boat Center will once again be hosting a competitive junior girls racing program this Fall. The main program coaches will be Amy Weatherby (NCS) and Kirk Shipley (Whitman). Thompson’s has a proud racing tradition that we are seeking to continue. The program will run 6 days a week, with afternoon practices 4:00 – 6:30, and Saturday mornings. The start date will be Wednesday, September 2nd, and the season runs through the first weekend in November. The team of 35 – 40 athletes will race locally at the Head of the Potomac, Occoquan Chase and Head of the Occoquan. Selected athletes will race at the Head of the Charles and Schuylkill. Our primary focus is on increasing each athlete’s efficiency through technical development and a quality racing experience. It is very important to us that every athlete returns to her scholastic team better able to actively contribute to its success. We also have a developmental program, which is a good fit for athletes who need more time working on technical aspects of the rowing stroke. This program is also an attractive option for athletes who cannot commit to a full practice schedule. The 2008 HOCR Crew included athletes from Oakton, O'Connell, Holton Arms, Sidwell Friends, Whitman, and National Cathedral. Four of the graduates from that crew are headed to collegiate teams this fall at Wisconsin, Princeton, and Notre Dame. Top college coaches regularly visit TBC in the fall and look to our results in Philadelphia and Boston. Participation in the program is an excellent way to garner collegiate attention and recruitment. There is a link for kids to register online: http://thompsonboatcenter.com/JWFallcomp.htm If your athletes go to the site and registration is full, please have them email one of us, and show up on the first day. Please forward this to your athletes and encourage them to contact either of us if they have any questions. We look forward to working with you and your athletes. Regards, Amy and Kirk Updated: 02/12/2010 |
