Experienced Head Coach. Fairfax H.S. Crew is seeking a Head Coach with previous coaching experience at the college, high school, or club level. The Head Coach is responsible for helping to advance the team as a whole by effectively teaching and training novice and varsity rowers in proper technique, racing strategy, sportsmanship, and discipline. Additionally, the Head Coach is responsible coordinating responsibilities and leading one or two assistant coaches. We are seeking a Head Coach who is assertive yet creative in bringing athletes of zero experience to a competitive level and those at a competitive level to champions. FHS Crew is entering its 14th season, averages 30-45 rowers per season, maintains a strong and young fleet of rowing shells, and is preparing for another highly successful, championship season. Assistant Varsity Coaches. James Madison High School Crew in Vienna, VA is looking for Assistant Varsity Coaches for the upcoming 2011-2012 season. The Madison Crew Team is a top high school team in the Washington DC area entering our 10th season with approximately 75 highly motivated and accomplished athletes. 2010-2011 accomplishments include a second in 2011 US Rowing Youth National Championship and 4 Virginia State Championship gold metals. All boats advanced to the semi-finals, and most boat advanced to the finals at the Stotesbury Cup and SRAA Nationals. There are openings at the varsity level on both the men's and women's sides of the team. Practices are held in the afternoon and positions are full time or part time depending on the applicant's availability. Winter conditioning practices (3-6 pm at James Madison High School) begin in late November with the water practices (3:30-6:00 pm at Sandy Run Rowing Facility) beginning in February and running through May. Successful candidates will have the proven ability to: Plan and execute comprehensive and competitive training programs; Effectively communicate and inspire young athletes; Establish positive relationships with athletes and other coaches; and Promote good sportsmanship. Applicants must be able to pass the FCPS background check and TB test. There are also FCPS mandatory classes which must be completed before starting to coach with more in-depth courses required after the end of the first year. U.S. Rowing, CPR, and First Aid certifications are well regarded but are not required. Previous rowing experience is required and previous high school or club coaching experience is desired. South County Secondary School Crew Team in Lorton, VA has positions open for the 2010/2011 season for Assistant Coaches for both the men's and women's team (working with novice and Varsity level rowers). We are looking for coaches who will make a commitment to the program and help us further develop our young, successful team. Specifically, we seek those with high energy, aptitude, and the attitude necessary to work with the developmental program. This includes coaching, teaching and communication skills necessary to work with the novice and developmental Varsity rowers as they progress. Our competitive season is in the spring but are currently doing winter conditioning (5:00 - 7:30) at the school. Assistant Coaches for Lake Braddock Crew. Lake Braddock Crew, located in Burke, Virginia, has a need for assistant coaches for the 2011-2012 scholastic crew season. Practices are held in the afternoons beginning in late November 2011, for winter conditioning, and concluding in late May at the culmination of the scholastic racing season. Winter conditioning practices are held at Lake Braddock Secondary School; spring practices (on the water) are held at Bull Run Marina, in Clifton, VA. Successful candidates will have commitment to and passion for the sport and inspire athletes to perform at their highest potential. Additional duties include: planning and running efficient practices, developing athlete technique and fitness, and preparing squads for racing. Coaches are also expected to attend all races, staff meetings, and recruiting events. USRowing coaching certifications, or the ability to obtain them, is required. CPR and First Aid training is also highly recommended. Previous collegiate rowing experience and coaching experience is not necessary but highly recommended. All candidates must also pass Fairfax County school system background check and TB test.
