West Potomac High School Crew
- a 42 year old program in Alexandria, VA- is looking to hire assistant coaches for the 2009 -2010 season.
Successful candidates will have the ability to: Plan and run efficient workouts - Set practice and race lineups, develop rower fitness and technique, and prep crews for racing - Attend races, meetings, and recruiting activities - Have drive and passion for the sport and inspire athletes to perform to their full potential.
US Rowing certifications, or the ability to obtain certifications required. Must pass county school system background check and TB test. Mandatory county classes also required for your first year, and more in-depth classes required after 1st year. CPR and First Aid proficiency are all well regarded. Previous college rowing experience and experience coaching high school is a plus. We pay a competitive salary based on experience. Fairfax H.S. Crew is seeking an Assistant Coach with previous coaching experience at the college, high school, or club level. The Assistant Coach is responsible for helping to advance the team as a whole by effectively teaching and training our novice and varsity rowers proper technique, racing strategy, sportsmanship, discipline, and how to have a great time doing it all.  We are seeking individuals who are assertive yet creative in bringing athletes of zero experience to a competitive level and those at a competitive level to champions. FHS Crew is entering its 12th season, averages 45-55 rowers per season, maintains a strong and young fleet of rowing shells, trains a number of All-Met athletes, and is preparing for another highly successful, championship season.  For more information on our program, go to http://www.fairfaxcrew.com/. South County Secondary School Crew Team (Lorton, Virginia) is seeking full and/or part time coaches for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. Our season begins the end of November with winter conditioning at the high school four evenings a week. We have a large weight room, an "erg room" with about 20 ergs, and access to the outdoor track (weather permitting). On-the-water training begins mid February through May. Practices are every afternoon Monday through Friday, races on Saturdays. We practice out of Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax, VA - on the Occoquan Reservoir. South County is a fairly young program, just starting our 5th year but has already enjoyed some major successes on both the mens and womens side. We have a very supportive and dedicated booster board, strong administrative support from the school, and extremely dedicated and hard working athletes. A competitive stipend is available for all full and part time coaches. A love for the sport and the willingness to pass that on to enthusiastic high school athletes is a must; past coaching experience desired but not required. The James Madison High School (Vienna, VA) Crew Team, a seven-year-old program based at the Occoquan's Sandy Run facility, is in need of full and part-time coaches for: Winter 2009/2010 rowing training/conditioning (mid-November to the end of February. Winter training will run approximately 3pm to 5pm, 3 to 4 days per week at James Madison High School in Vienna, VA. --AND-- Spring 2010 water training (the end of February until the beginning of June). Water training will run from 3:30pm to 6pm 5 days per week with morning practices or regattas on Saturdays at Sandy Run on the Occoquan in Fairfax Station, VA. A competitive stipend is available for all full and part-time coaches. Past coaching experience desired, but not required. Robinson Crew seeks a women's head coach for the upcoming 2009-2010 season.
Our season begins in mid-November with winter training 3-4 evenings per week. Winter training is held at Robinson High School in Burke, VA, we have access to 25 ergs and a large, updated weight room. Water season starts is mid-February to May, with practices Monday-Friday afternoons, with races on Saturdays. Water practices are held on the Occoquan Reservior in Lorton, VA, which features 11 miles of rowable water, a fully buoyed 2,000 meter race course, 2 docks, an erg room with 12 ergs. The girls fleet of boats includes five Vespoli eights and one Dirigo eight. The girls team has been on a run of unprecedented success, with the varsity eight finishing top 5 in the state each of the last four years, including a win in 2007 (the first in team history), and the junior varsity eight finishing in the top 3 each of the last two years. There are ~60 competitive girls on the team and we have two dedicated, experienced assistant coaches and hard-working parent board to aid the women's head coach. Thomas Jefferson High School
for Science and Technology is seeking a boys' novice/freshman coach for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. Our season begins in mid-November with winter training. Winter training is held at TJHSST. The on-water season is mid-February to May, with practices Monday-Friday afternoons and races on Saturdays. Practice is held at Sandy Run Regional Park on the Occoquan Reservoir. The boys freshman/novice team usually attracts between 25 and 30 freshman. The coach would be a member of a staff of 4 coaches with a total of over 40 years of coaching experience. We are also seeking a Novice Coach with competitive rowing and/or coxing experience (preferred). The Assistant Varsity Coach and Novice Coach are responsible for helping to advance the team as a whole by effectively teaching and training our new rowers proper technique, racing strategy, sportsmanship, discipline, and how to have a great time doing it all.  The individuals in these positions have almost complete management and oversight of their programs with only a small amount of involvement by the Head Coach.  We are seeking individuals who are assertive yet creative in bringing athletes of zero experience to a competitive level and those at a competitive level to champions. Langley High School is moving in to its 17th season of Crew, and during the last several seasons we have averaged between 65-75 rowers. We are lucky enough to have an extremely active and supportive parent booster organization that provides all equipment, financial, travel, fundraising, and logistical needs. We are currently searching for candidates to fill the following positions on our coaching staff:
Head/Varsity Coach: An ideal candidate for our Head Coach position would have prior coaching experience at the college, high school or club level, along with technical expertise and a passion for the sport that would help in inspiring our athletes to perform to their full potential. The Head Coach would have direct involvement in the hiring of Assistant Coaches.

An ideal Assistant Coach candidate would have competitive rowing/coxing experience, and a desire to promote a passion for the sport in working with motivated student athletes. West Springfield Crew Booster Club is searching for a Menıs Head Coach to lead our menıs coaching staff and the menıs team, and a Womenıs Coach to support the Womenıs Head Coach and the womenıs team.  WS High School has had a successful Crew Program since 1987 with approximately 70-80 athletes each year. The clubıs focus is teaching young athletes to row and coxswain well in a competitive environment.  On the menıs side we generally have 4-5 eights, and 3-4 eights on the womenıs side.  WS practices and races six days a week at the Sandy Run Regional Park on the Occoquan River, in Northern Virginia outside Washington DC, from the end of February to the end of May. The season consists of 7 regattas, the Stotesbury Cup Regatta, and for those boats that qualify Scholastic Rowing Association of America Nationals. Voluntary winter conditioning is available to our athletes from November through February at the high school.
       The Men's Head Coach will lead the menıs West Springfield Crew Team; a growing team of young men and outstanding coaches.  Candidates need to be at least USRA Crew Coach Level I certified, with a willingness to pursue Level III.  They must have at least 4yrs of crew coaching experience and preferably 4yrs of rowing/coxswain experience.  They should possess basic knowledge in crew shell maintenance and repair, and have current first aid/CPR certification.
       The Womenıs Coach will support the Womenıs Head Coach, Mark Hemphill, in developing young, talented athletes into outstanding coxswains and rowers. Candidates need to be willing to pursue USRA Crew Coach Certification.  They must have a total of 4yrs of crew coaching and/or
rowing/coxswain experience.  They should have current first aid/CPR certification.

Lake Braddock Secondary School, located in Burke, VA, is looking for a head coach.  We’re looking for the leadership and vision to expand and grow our already successful program.  We are also actively recruiting assistant coaches.  Winter conditioning starts at the end of November and the spring rowing season starts the third week of February 2010.  The spring season runs through May or early June, depending on regatta selections and rower performance.  The program has run between 85 and 100 rowers, typically split about 60/40 between female and male athletes.  We row out of Bull Run Marina on the beautiful Occoquan river.   For more information, see our website www.bruincrew.com.  Send resume and contact information or inquiries to president@bruincrew.com.

Christchurch School seeks head crew coach for the 2009-2010 year. The season runs from late August to late May and includes daily practices after school and weekend commitments. Christchurch offers an idyllic campus setting with complimentary, on-campus housing available. Responsibilities include designing and conducting a pre-season conditioning program; coaching practices; preparing race entries and attending races; providing basic equipment maintenance and supervising assistant coaches. Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School, Arlington, Virginia, is seeking applicants for crew coaching positions.  The Bishop O'Connell program is Varsity Level in its 13th year, has approximately 70 athletes and rows out of Thompson Boat Center in Washington.  Winter training is conducted at the school from December through February with on the water training beginning in late February.  Both winter and on the water practice times are in the afternoon.  The program enjoys support from the school's administration and has an active parent booster group.
All applicants should have extensive rowing/coxing experience and, ideally, previous coaching experience.  Ability and willingness to drive a rented truck that tows our shell trailer and familiarity with operations and personnel at Thompson Boat Center would be very beneficial.  Salaries are competitive with other Washington, DC Metro area scholastic rowing programs.  All successful candidates will have to pass Diocesan background checks.
